Adult Classes

Whether your goal is to take your artistic endeavors to the next level or give yourself the experience of discovering your own creative spirit classes at the Museum will provide the perfect environment for artistic learning and participation.

SPRING CLASSES
Drawing Studio    
Ages 18 and Older
8 week class
Drawing is the foundation of all art. In this studio setting, students will work at their own level to develop drawing skills and reach their own creative goals. Learn about proportion, value, line quality, color theory, blending, visual texture, shading and composition with group and individual instruction. A list of supplies will be provided the first day of class.  
Fee: $80 mem and res /$96 non

Watercolor Studio Instruction   
Ages 18 and Older
5 week class
Develop your natural creativity and gain a sense of accomplishment while learning the basic techniques of watercolor painting. The teacher provides demonstrations and step-by-step instruction. A list of materials will be provided the first day of class.

Pottery For Your Home   
Ages 18 and Older
6 week class
Bring home some style with ceramic projects you create! Each week a new home-ware project will be demonstrated for inspiration, and our pottery instructor will guide you through the process of making and glazing your platters, boxes, urns and tableware. All levels welcome. Supply list and clay for purchase are available the first night of class.
Fee: $55 mem and res/$67 non

Paint-Out!*
Ages 18 and up (21 to enjoy the wine)
Grab a pal for a creative evening out on the town! Embrace the pleasure of painting even if you have never set brush to canvas before. Beginners welcome—our teaching artists will guide you through the painting process in a fun, and easy series of steps. Jazz up your night with complimentary wine and scrumptious chocolates catered by Elmhurst’s own Chow. By evening’s end, go home with your own brag-worthy picture to grace your wall. All materials provided. $38/participant.

Yoga in the Galleries*
Ages 18 and Older
The architecture and art of the Elmhurst Art Museum provide a special place for contemplation while practicing yoga. Surround yourself in the quiet of the Museum before the doors open to the public and invest in an hour-long yoga session. Classes will rotate through our gallery spaces so that participants can continuously be renewed and inspired by the works surrounding them. Classes are available on a drop-in basis. Students purchase tickets based on the number of classes they wish to participate. Students must supply own yoga mats and equipment. 

4 sessions: $50
8 sessions: $90

Watercolor Workshop with Peggy Macnamara*
Peggy Macnamara will bring bird and insect specimens from the Field Museum to use as subjects for her one day watercolor workshop. She will demonstrate drawing systems as well as how to layer watercolor. All levels and any natural subjects of study are encouraged. $65 for 5 hour class.

Adult Figure Drawing*
Ages 18 and Older (ages 16 & 17 with parent permission)
8 week class
An this class is an opportunity for adult artists and AP art students who sculpt, paint and draw to increase skills and comfort while learning to capture the complexity of the human figure. Students will draw from nude and draped models with emphasis on gesture, proportion, volume, contour line and composition. Pencil, charcoal, pastels, stick and ink and ink washes will be covered. Please bring a large drawing pad and your drawing instrument of choice to class. $150 for EAM members and Students with a valid ID/$190 for non-members.

SUMMER CLASSES

Pottery Basics
Ages 14 and Older
6 week class

Try something new this summer and explore the creative and relaxing process of making functional and sculptural pottery. This class is exclusively for beginning students. Learn the techniques to get a solid foundation in ceramics from hand-building to basic wheel throwing. New projects will be introduced each session and plenty of hands-on assistance is available. One bag of clay is provided; tool sets and additional clay may be purchased during class.
Fee: $65 mem and res/$75 non

Pottery Open Studio
Ages 18 and Older
6 week class

Open Studio is designed for intermediate and advanced pottery students to develop their skills and individual interests. The Museum’s studio includes wheels, a slab roller, extruder, glazes and kilns. Our teaching potter will present demonstrations based upon group interests and will provide individual assistance as requested. Students receive a complimentary storage shelf; a modest fee will be charged for clay and additional firing.

Cyanotype Workshop with Casey Roberts
Ages 14 and older

Explore how artist Casey Roberts pushes the Civil War era technology of cyanotype into the 21st century. Casey will share his process for painting with this light sensitive medium through the use of controlled chemical reactions.
