The Elmhurst Art Museum Internship Program provides a unique and versatile learning experience for the next generation of museum professionals.
Interns work under the guidance of department heads on a wide range of projects that include, but are not limited to, collection management, research, installation, marketing, visitor services, education programs, and clerical support. Interns are provided the opportunity to work closely with staff in several of the Museum's departments creating a substantial and comprehensive professional experience. Interns also participate in special events, various educational programs, and project related meetings and appointments.
Internships are unpaid and generally require a minimum of 14 hours per week. Interns must be of junior or senior undergraduate status, or graduate students. Flexible hours are required due to installation schedules and special events. Interns must have strong communication skills with ability to adequately communicate with the public and proficiency in Excel, Word, and Powerpoint. Students must make their own arrangements with their respective institutions for academic credit.
Prospective interns are asked to submit the following: cover letter, resume or curriculum vitae, one letter of recommendation, and one academic writing sample. Selected applicants will be contacted for an interview and considered for placement based on the needs of the Museum.
